Introduction
This website was created for my LIS 721 Final Project. I was monitoring the Illinois School Library Media Association (ISLMANET-L) listserv for several weeks and I found three threads that are related to each other, each of them using picture books to address bullying. This is an important topic because after doing some extended research, I found that bullying continues to be a serious problem because of the lack of support from the School Administrations and/or the Boards of Education. Using picture books and novels as tools to address bullying is essential. In addition, librarians and teachers can work together by creating an anti-bullying project that can become part of a school curriculum or library program. Librarians can also provide resources and materials for teachers to use in their classes. In one of the threads that I was monitoring, a teacher was asking for support and help in finding books about bullying to share in class. It is the librarian's responsibility to respond to and support our classroom teachers by using our knowledge and resources to help them address the bullying that is occurring in schools. Children need to feel empowered and supported by their teachers and librarians.
